THE BUILD
The Build is more than a running journal. It’s a place to document the miles, process the setbacks, celebrate the breakthroughs, and reflect on the journey that shapes you as both an athlete and a person. Created by Division I distance runner Emily Pierce, this journal was built from years of handwritten training logs, race recaps, prayers, personal bests, and lessons learned through the highs and lows of competitive running. It was born from a simple truth: mental health impacts physical performance more than many people realize. For much of Emily’s athletic career, anxiety and self-doubt affected not only her daily life, but her performance as well. Journaling became a way to slow down, reflect, and return to the mindset her dad always reminded her of: Control the controllables. Inside The Build, you’ll find space to track weekly training, reflect on workouts and races, set goals, document race memories, and dive deeper into the habits, mindset, and faith that shape long-term growth. More than just a logbook, this journal is designed to help distance runners stay grounded through the process—through the unseen miles, the setbacks, the victories, and everything in between. This is YOUR journal. Write in the margins. Underline and star the victories. Cry on the pages. Tear them out if you need to. Fill it with the moments that make you. Make it yours. Trust the build.
